Mykola Tomenko: Holding of the Presidential Campaign does not face any Legislative Problems
Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appreciates adoption of the Bill "On Amendments to certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding Elections of the President of Ukraine" at the First Reading. He expressed the above-mentioned opinion in the interview to UNIAN news agency, commenting upon the results of voting.
The Vice-Chairman stated that the BYuT Faction participated in the voting, so that The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the President jointly eliminated discrepancies in the effective electoral legislation.
The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that he personally approved of certain regulations of the presidential Bill. Thus, the Bill prohibits the foreigners and stateless persons to take part in election campaigning by means of journalist activity, participation in the concerts, performances, sports competitions or other public events held to support the candidate for presidency or a party (bloc) that is a subject of the election process.
The Vice-Chairman commented upon the possibility of further scrutiny of the Bill and its adoption in entirety. He calls for amending the Law, taking into account the resolutions of the Constitutional Court and the Venetian Commission and proposals of all the Factions. He stressed that the presidential campaign can be held in accordance with the effective Law "On Elections of the President of Ukraine".
"I would like to stress that there are no legislative problems to hamper the presidential election campaign, no matter how the events develop. Neither variant hampers the proper campaign", - stated Mykola Tomenko.
